MacroLab II – EMMA

MacroLab II EMMA is a uniquetool to digitize and automate microbiology QC.

Our (patent-pending) optics system captures ultra-precise images and uses artificial intelligence to analyze your samples. Perfect for environmental monitoring assays.

This unique optical acquisition system allows to acquire high resolution image of 100% of plate surface, including the edges on the border (meniscus) enable to detect any colony on the Petri Dishes (ensuring NO False negative)

Everything is fully integrated in the system: camera, computer, touchscreen. The Macrolab II EMMA can acquire images, analyze the data and provide results. No additional PC or software needed.

Pharmaceutical Microbiology QC & Environmental Monitoring

The MacroLab II EMMA is our standalone fully integrated environmental monitoring solution, optimally fit for restricted access labs. Thanks to a unique, patent-pending optical system generating 100% representative images for downstream analysis by powerful vision AI models, we are ready to revolutionize microbial QC.

The optics

Microtechnix developed an entirely new (patent-pending) optical system for the MacroLab II EMMA ensuring 100% of the Petri dish surface can be imaged with the lid on.

All pictures, set-up & validation performed on any Macrolab II EMMA can be transferred easily  on any other Macrolab II EMMA. All your efforts to integrate and validate this new technology are preserved.

The optical advantage

This unique optical approach ensures contaminants (bacteria colony, mold,…) growing on the meniscus (edge/border of PD) is captured by the MacroLab EMMA.

This is the only way to ensure no false negative results, a key requirement in environmental monitoring.

Consistency

The calibration parameters  are saved in a digital file valid for your system and any other Macrolab II EMMA system, anywhere in the world. Simply share the calibration file with other labs in your network for complete consistency and simple, smooth assay validation.

Microtechnix calibration methodology of imaging systems ensures reproducibility and repeatability of the result on each system and between systems. Consistency is ensured overtime and between labs or operators.

Artificial intelligence (AI)

Traditional computer vision solutions comes with several challenges to efficiently automate image analysis, especially when shape and size of objects differ a lot.

Here’s why Vision AI can positively impact computer vision projects:

  • ‍Faster image labelling
  • Full traceability & transparency
  • The ability to resolve much complexer use cases
  • Scalable & Robust

At Microtechnix, 2  vision AI template models are available for immediate deployment at customers:

  • EMdi assistant: detects colony growth on plates based on a binary classification model
  • EMdi automation: automatically counts colonies on positive plates based on an object detection model

These AI models can, on request, be re-trained with customer specific data to further optimise performance characteristics to match specific customer requirements. Based on a secure platform, we provide a user-friendly environment to label images that can be used to re-train the existing models to perform better for the specific tasks and environments its used for.

Types of applications

The MacroLab II EMMA is designed to support most pharmaceutical microbiology QC applications, including environmental monitoring and bioburden testing.

Petri Dishes : handle plates of every supplier Ø 55 – 120mm locking lid – standard lid
Membrane filters: handle membrane filters in 90 mm plates or ready-to-use systems like Milliflex

Main features:

  • Vision AI for growth detection and counting on Petri Dishes.
  • Image acquisition with lid (to avoid contamination)
  • Data integrity with sample identification and audit trail (21 CFR part 11 compliant)
  • Reporting and possibility to connect to the EM software (Moda-EM, Sherpa Pharma & other LIMs,…)
